Our latest project consisted of an acrylic backer panel lobby sign in Phoenix, AZ. Beach Building Specialties opened a new office in the city and needed a brand-focused sign to transform the lobby area. We recommended an acrylic backer panel as the starting point.
What is an Acrylic Backer Panel?
An acrylic wall panel can be translucent or painted, which makes it ideal as a foundation for a lobby sign. For this client, we selected a 3/16-inch thickness. Because the client specified a beige background color, we applied the tone to the backer panel’s rear surface. This allows the front to maintain its stylish, highly polished finish. Of course, you do not have to limit yourself to a solid color. Other options include leaving the panel clear or adding frosted or tinted vinyl for color or texture.
Adding Dimension With a Layered Design

Our technicians used acrylic with varying thicknesses to display Beach Building Specialties’ name, tagline, and logo. We used the company’s corporate color palette to paint the letters and logo pieces. Look closely, and you notice that the thinner tagline letters’ sides are painted in the same tone as the backdrop. Once applied to the backer panel, this combination of letters and logo creates a unique three-dimensional look.
