When business customers ask us if it is wise to re-use last year’s holiday sale signs, we usually urge them to look at the markers with the eye of a first-time shopper. What do they see? Are the markers faded from excessive window display time? Do they contain products that are no longer for sale? Have some of the manufacturers changed the look of their products since last year? In short, are the signs as up to date as you would like them to be? If not – or if it is simply time to replace your signage with something completely different – here are the must-have sale signs for the holidays.
Flags. On the outside, they alert consumers that there is something special going on in your store. On the inside, these flags continue this conversation. Install them near the shelves that hold sale items or use them across your store to identify aisles where marked-down products can be found just in time for holiday shopping.
Banners. Just like flags, banners are a great marketing tool for markdowns, special deals and seasonal products that are in high demand this year. Identify the products that your customers want and have a banner printed that makes it easy to find them. Hang it on the outside or on the inside.
Point of sale signs. These markers are a must near the registers as well as the actual products that they address. It is here that the shopper remembers to accessorize a scarf with gloves or a new purse with a wallet. By suggesting product pairings and offering special deals on certain products when buying the targeted items, you have the opportunity of increasing your sales.
Wayfinding signage. There are many ways to add these retail signs in time for the holidays. Get creative with floor graphics that point the way to this season’s most popular toy. Wall graphics draw attention to the perfect food and wine pairing near the deli. Hanging arrows point to the 50-percent-off section. Other wayfinding markers direct shoppers to the complimentary gift-wrapping area or the lay-away counter.
A-frame. On the outside, an A-frame sign directs foot traffic into your store. Since it is directly placed in the flow of foot traffic, it generates interest. While passersby may not immediately see your storefront unless they are closer, this sign generates interest and may get them to come in just to check out what you have in stock.
