Layered Sign Design Results in a Stunning Foyer Display
Layering is an excellent technique for the creation of brand-focused signs with a wow factor. For this client, we started with a PVC backer featuring brushed metal and vinyl overlays. Next, we added a second layer of ½-inch-thick Gatorfoam that we treated with a brushed silver laminate and a vinyl overlay.
For the final layer, our technicians placed ¾-inch-thick white Gatorfoam letters on top. On the bottom, the text uses ½-inch Gatorfoam letters. Installation of the sign took place on a segmented wall. When you look at the product from the side, you notice the individual style elements’ careful layering.
From the front, the sign displays attractive three-dimensional style elements that give the lobby marker a substantial feel. Moreover, the center placement of the symbol and lettering creates a visually compelling presentation in the foyer.
Working with Gatorfoam Makes Sense
Gatorfoam is a human-made product. There are multiple grades available, which makes this product suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Most importantly, weight differentiations let you decide how long the sign should last. As a result, you are in the driver’s seat when it comes to selecting a price point that works for you.
Besides that, Gatorfoam is a chameleon. When we paint it with a glossy finish, it easily looks like a much more expensive material. Add a metal laminate, and the material gives the illusion that your sign is made of metal throughout. For gradient color changes, we add imprinted vinyl overlays that look fantastic.
Of course, the foam does not have to stand alone. When added to a layered display, the Gatorfoam can become the backdrop, serve as the 3D middle ground, or stand in the foreground in the form of letters or symbols. If you add illumination to the mix, it could lead to a persuasive display of lights and shadows.
Our clients have had excellent success with combinations of foam in different thicknesses. It boosts the three-dimensional appeal of the right style elements while also allowing for showing movement with the sign. Through the gradual shrinking of the thickness, the symbols can give the illusion that the front is farther away than the back.
